White Hat Hacker Steals Stolen Funds After Crypto Hack on Morpho Labs

A successful white hat hacker intervened to recover funds stolen from the Morpho Labs platform following an exploit that occurred shortly after their front-end update on April 10, 2025. The theft of $2.6 million was reported by blockchain analysis firm Peakshield who also identified the address involved in the breach as c0ffeebabe.eth. The hacker later intercepted the stolen funds and transferred them to an unknown address. While the Morpho Labs team quickly reverted the update to restore normal operations, and assured that all funds remained secure. 2.6M loss was reported from the exploit. Peakshield posted on X on April 11, 2025 that a particular address suffered a $2.6 million exploit due to an update in Morpho Blue. The team stated that the updates were made to enhance transaction flow and they are working to prevent similar issues. 24 hours after the attack crypto market saw a drop of over 12% with a fear and greed index of 21 down from 25, with Bitcoin falling 7% in a week. Automated bots have been increasing for illicit activities, especially within the cryptocurrency market. These automated systems have become increasingly popular tools for black hat hackers, providing malicious actors with efficient ways to carry out various schemes like phishing and social engineering as well as website mimickings.
