Senator Elizabeth Warren and fellow Democratic senators have expressed alarm at the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) decision to dismantle its National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), accusing it of creating a national security vulnerability. The move has sparked a call for transparency from the DOJ as concerns grow about criminals exploiting the anonymity offered by cryptocurrencies. 5 Senate Democrats, including Warren and Richard Durbin, criticized the DOJ’s decision in a letter dated April 10th to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. They warn that this retreat could allow criminals to evade sanctions, engage in drug trafficking, scams, and child sexual exploitation with greater ease in the digital asset space.
