Do Kwon’s Charges Remain Intact Despite DOJ Memo

U.S. prosecutors maintain their charges against Terraform Labs founder Do Kwon despite a recent Department of Justice (DOJ) memo that provides leniency for cryptocurrency companies. The memo, signed by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, discourages criminal prosecutions of exchanges and mixing services except under specific circumstances and suggests regulatory oversight be handled by agencies from the Trump administration. This development follows multiple charges filed against Kwon, including commodity fraud, securities fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. If convicted, he could face up to 130 years in prison. The trial date has been rescheduled from January 26, 2026, to February 17, 2026, with the next pretrial conference set for June 12, 2025.
