SafeMoon CEO Seeks Dismissal of Lawsuit, Citing DOJ’s Reversal on Crypto Charges

Braden John Karony, the CEO of crypto firm SafeMoon, is seeking to have his legal battle dismissed by citing the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) recent decision to disband its crypto enforcement unit. In a letter to New York federal court Judge Eric Komitee, Karony’s attorney, Nicholas Smith, highlighted a memo from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche that marked the end of the DOJ’s crypto-specific regulatory framework.
The memo instructed prosecutors not to pursue charges related to securities and commodities laws unless specific evidence demonstrates the digital asset is indeed a security or commodity. This shift in strategy aligns with the DOJ’s stance on no longer pursuing crypto-related charges, arguing they should focus on traditional regulations instead.
