Lawsuit Challenges DHS Over Potential Bitcoin Creator Information

A legal battle has ignited as crypto lawyer James Murphy filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), seeking documents related to alleged Bitcoin creator information. The suit, filed under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), stems from claims made by DHS Special Agent Rana Saoud in 2019 that her colleagues met with four individuals believed to be involved in Bitcoin’s creation. Murphy, known for his expertise as MetaLawMan on social media, requests access to meeting notes and other documents related to the alleged interview. He argues that if such a meeting took place as described, records should exist detailing its content. Speaking at the OffshoreAlert Conference in Miami, Saoud revealed that DHS agents traveled to California to meet with individuals believed to be involved in Bitcoin’s creation. Murphy is determined to pursue the case if the DHS obstructs disclosure; however, he acknowledges the possibility that the meeting might have involved incorrect identification.
