Recent fake news claiming US President Donald Trump was considering a 90-day pause on tariffs triggered market speculation and a significant rally in asset prices. The rumor, which stemmed from a post on X attributed to verified Bloomberg account, caused the S&P 500, Nasdaq, and Dow Jones to surge by over 8%, 9.5%, and 7% respectively. Bitcoin (BTC) also experienced a similar spike, briefly reaching $80,000 before retracting. The supposed pause was later debunked as false, and markets saw subsequent declines. However, crypto YouTuber Lark Davis highlighted the market’s susceptibility to such speculation, noting that even a minor delay like this could spark substantial investor activity. He concluded that the episode revealed a concerning trend of volatility in response to short-term market rumors. The alleged rumor also prompted Trump to threaten more tariffs against China if the move does not cease.
