EU Seeks Trade Harmony Despite U.S. Tariff Rejections

The European Union (EU) is committed to averting a trade war with the United States, despite the Trump administration’s rejection of their proposed ‘zero-for-zero’ tariff deal encompassing all industrial products. White House trade advisor Peter Navarro stated that for an agreement to be reached, the EU must alleviate non-tariff barriers such as value-added tax and food safety regulations. An EU spokesperson reiterated, stating, ‘The situation remains unchanged. We want to avoid tariffs… We are waiting for our American counterparts to engage in a meaningful way.’
