Acting SEC Chairman Mark Uyeda clarified during a recent CNBC interview that Bitcoin and Ethereum are not securities. This echoes the assessment made by former Chair Gary Gensler. According to Uyeda, if you own either Bitcoin or Ethereum, there would be no insider trading due to their non-security status. However, Uyeda declined to address XRP’s legal standing despite being pressed on the topic by host Andrew Ross Sorkin during the interview. Recall that Ripple dismissed its appeal against the SEC last month, effectively ending the long-standing legal battle. Previously, speculation arose about the SEC potentially using the Ethereum model to classify XRP. A federal judge previously ruled that the token itself is not a security.
