Pump.fun Resurrects Live Streaming After 5-Month Hiatus

Controversial Solana-based memecoin platform Pump.fun has returned its live streaming feature to a select group of users after an abrupt five-month hiatus. The decision comes following the discontinuation of the service last November amidst scrutiny over risky and dangerous broadcasts, including threats of violence and self-harm. The platform’s co-founder, Alon Cohen, announced the limited reinstatement on April 4th via a post on X (formerly Twitter). 5% of users will be given access to this reinstated feature, accompanied by industry-standard moderation systems and transparent guidelines: https://t.co/26r5M4Awam

The reintroduction is being rolled out gradually through a specific launch procedure designed for evaluation. New industry-standard moderation systems have been implemented alongside clear guidelines to ensure users understand platform requirements and expectations. The objective is to create a positive social environment while safeguarding against illegal or harmful content. This includes banning any content that promotes violence, endangers animals or depicts pornography or threatens young people. However, the right of judgment for inappropriate content remains with the platform through individual case evaluations, allowing for some content that may be considered NSFW. The sudden surge in user base overwhelmed the moderation capacity, leading to the suspension of live-streaming operations. As a result, users resorted to promoting their memecoins through dangerous tactics and ultimately led to the indefinite hold on live streaming. The team has now focused on developing robust moderation systems for the return of this feature.
