Meta Launches Open-Weight AI Model Llama 4 for Enhanced App Experiences

Meta has entered the world of open-weight AI models with the launch of Llama 4. This latest release aims to enhance the capabilities of its apps like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger by introducing a suite of new language models. Meta claims that Llama 4’s open-weight nature allows users to run these models locally without relying on cloud APIs. The model consists of three key components: Llama 4 Scout (for multimodal processing), Llama 4 Behemoth (a larger model for training the other models), and Llama 4 Maverick (designed for specific tasks). Llama 4 Behemoth boasts a massive size, boasting 288 billion active parameters, while the smaller Llama 4 Scout utilizes a mixture-of-experts (MoE) design. Both these models showcase Meta’s commitment to local AI solutions and demonstrate their potential in various tasks. The models also aim to compete with established AI players like Google’s Gemma and OpenAI’s ChatGPT by achieving impressive performance in areas such as math, language understanding, and image processing.
