This sophisticated scam leverages social engineering tactics by using addresses similar to victims’ transaction history to trick them into sending funds to malicious addresses. 48,000 transactions exemplify this phenomenon, according to Lopp who analyzed blockchain data for these attacks. He highlighted the attacks’ emergence, noting a surge in activity starting from July 7, 2023, to January 28, 2025, and their potential impact on users.
