South Korea has launched a nationwide trial of its central bank digital currency (CBDC), inviting businesses and consumers to participate in gathering valuable data on the real-world application of digital currency. The trial, which runs from April 1st through June 30th, will examine crucial aspects like transaction efficiency, security protocols, and consumer feedback. Participating businesses such as 7-Eleven are offering incentives to encourage user engagement. For example, they’re providing a 10% discount on transactions made using CBDC. This initiative is backed by the Bank of Korea, Financial Services Commission (FSC), and the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS). They are collaborating to ensure the trial’s smooth execution and address any potential issues that may arise.
