7-Eleven to Offer Discounts on Purchases Using South Korea’s New CBDC

South Korean convenience stores, 7-Eleven, are joining forces with the country’s central bank in an experimental pilot program for Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) payments. The trial, running from April to June, will offer customers a 10% discount on all purchases made using CBDC for a limited time. This initiative is being overseen by the Bank of Korea and supported by various financial institutions, with participation capped at 100,000 individuals. The program aims to advance the creation of a pilot prototype for future monetary systems.
