Tether, the issuer of the stablecoin USDT, acquired a significant 8,888 Bitcoin (BTC) during the first quarter of 2025, according to onchain data, bringing its total BTC holdings above $8.4 billion. The firm moved newly acquired Bitcoin from a Bitfinex address to a wallet under its control, according to onchain analytics platform Arkham Intelligence. Tether’s Bitcoin balance currently stands at 100,521 BTC, worth approximately $8.46 billion. This news follows reports that US regulations could force Tether to sell part of its BTC holdings to comply with proposed rules, as JP Morgan analysts suggest a significant portion of Tether’s reserves may not meet current regulatory guidelines.
