The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed that the North Korean hacker group, known as ‘TraderTraitor’, is responsible for stealing $1.5 billion in cryptocurrency from the Bybit exchange on February 21st. According to the FBI, these hackers converted some of the stolen funds into Bitcoin and dispersed them across multiple blockchain addresses. The plan is to eventually launder these funds into traditional currency. To combat this activity, the FBI has issued a request for cooperation from various parties including RPC node operators, exchanges, DeFi service providers, and blockchain analysis firms, urging them to block any associated addresses of ‘TraderTraitor’ before further circulation of stolen assets can occur. Additionally, the FBI has released a list of several Ethereum addresses linked to the group, encouraging businesses and law enforcement agencies to collaborate in addressing North Korean cybercrime activities.
