North Korea Uses Fake US Companies for Cryptocurrency Hack Attacks

North Korean hackers are exploiting job seekers in the cryptocurrency world by using fake American companies as fronts. According to U.S. legal filings and research shared with Reuters, these cyber criminals created two limited-liability companies in the United States: Blocknovas LLC in New Mexico and Softglide LLC in New York. These entities were used to distribute malware to job seekers in the cryptocurrency industry. The purpose of this scheme was to steal sensitive information like wallet keys, passwords, and other credentials, allowing them to potentially break into crypto exchanges or tech firms. cybersecurity firm Silent Push uncovered this tactic, reporting that these companies had fake names, rented addresses, and offered job interviews with malicious intent. A third company, Angeloper Agency, also used similar tactics without appearing on any U.S. corporate register.
