In a recent blog post, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has voiced serious concerns about privacy in the context of rapidly evolving artificial intelligence (AI). He argues that traditional notions of privacy are no longer sufficient and must be addressed urgently. According to Buterin, advancements in AI have dramatically increased both centralized data collection capabilities and our own voluntary information sharing, further exacerbating this issue.
He further highlighted the emergence of innovative technologies like zero-knowledge proofs (ZK), fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), and obfuscation techniques, which he believes are far beyond anything envisioned by early cypherpunks in the 1990s. Buterin emphasizes that the greatest danger lies in the potential for privacy to hit historic lows, resulting in an imbalance where only those with significant power can access all of our data while others remain unaware.
